Calgary’s historic Central Memorial Park was reopened in May, following an $11 million (Canadian dollars) renovation, which includes major new fountains, and the local population are already enjoying the new fountains. The park is the city’s oldest, listed as a ‘Provincial Historic Resource’, it dates back to 1885, when land for the park was first set aside. By 1912 Central Memorial Park was a civic showplace complete with Alberta's first public library, war memorials, a bandstand and decorative plantings. The park totals 4.68 acres and occupies one entire city block, a short walk from downtown.
